Thunder Bay Children’s Aid Society provides quality student placements with a focus on staff and student development, facilitating a culture of learning and continued support of our educational partners. The agency has partnered with Lakehead University and Confederation College to provide student placement experiences that facilitate learning through staff field instructors and mentors who have experience in child welfare. Student placements are accepted from Lakehead University’s Social Work program. Those students in 4th year of this program or those who are in the one year Social Work program are considered for placement opportunities through an application process. Students are also considered for student placement from the Child and Youth Worker program and the Social Service Worker programs at Confederation College.
Students completing their placement at CAS can expect an orientation to the agency, regularly scheduled supervision as well as training opportunities, where possible, which cover the foundations of Child Welfare Practice and skills based workshops. Staff instructors are also provided with training on instructing students and receive support from the training coordinator at the agency.
