Triple P Positive Parenting Model

A Collaborative Effort

The Triple P Positive Parenting Program model was chosen as a collaborative effort with Dilico Ojibway Child and Family Services, Children’s Centre Thunder Bay and North of Superior Programs. Additionally, there is great interest within the community to further implement this model at a broader level.

The Children’s Aid Society has trained staff to deliver the Triple P Positive Parenting Model through groups or on an individual basis. This model has been developed through over 20 years of research and assessment. The program is based on contemporary knowledge, has been well tested in international research and has been found useful by many parents.

The Goals of Triple P are:

  • To promote the independence and health of families by enhancing parents' knowledge, skills and confidence
  • To promote the development of non-violent, protective and nurturing environments for children
  • To promote the development, growth, health and social competencies of young children
  • To reduce the incidence of child abuse, mental illness, behavioural problems, delinquency and homelessness
  • To enhance the competence, resourcefulness and self-sufficiency of parents in raising their preadolescent children

The program's multi-level framework aims to tailor information, advice and professional support to the needs of individual families. It recognizes that parents have differing needs and desires regarding the type, intensity and mode of assistance they may require. Triple P interventions range from the provision of media message on positive parenting, through to brief information resources such as tip sheets and videos and brief targeted interventions (for specific behaviour problems), to more intensive parent training programs targeting broader family issues such as relationship conflict and parental depression, anger and stress.
